Club HistoryThe club was started by Bertie Wooster with the help of a grant from the army to buy some goals.
He spoke to one of the boys playing football on the base and realised that they needed something to do to keep themselves occupied.
By the summer of 1998 there was enough children involved to be able to enter three teams, under 11, under 10 and under 8, into the Felixstowe and District league. There was also a young adults team playing during that first season. The teams home matches were played at the school field on Sutton Heath base. The eldest team moved to Hollesley Playing Field at the start of the second season as there were too many teams to play all of their home matches at Sutton Heath.
At the start of the third season the second eldest team also moved to Hollesley Playing Fields and within a few years all of the teams were using Hollesley as their home ground.
The youngest team got so big after a couple of years that it had to be split into three different teams thus increasing the total number of teams to five. This number of teams was maintained as new younger teams were created as older teams disbanded.
The number of players has grown over the years from about 40 initially to over 100.
In 2001 Bertie and his wife Lynne stepped down and a new committee was formed.
In 2006 an adults team was started, to enable those players who had become too old to play youth football to continue playing competitive football. New players were also recruited from the surrounding areas.
The club has been very lucky over the years with the parental help and support it has been offered. Without this the club would not have been able to continue and been able to grow to the size it is now.
The club has held some very successful tournaments over the years that have raised large amounts of money to enable subs to be kept as low as possible whilst maintaining a high standard of equipment. Over the years the facilities at Jets Gym and Portman Road have been used for training as well as visiting coaches from Ipswich Town who have offered coaching to some of the teams.
The Village Parish Council have been very supportive and have allowed the club to update and change the playing field pavilion to suit their needs. Training lights have been installed to allow training outside all season. A parent of one of the players donated a container to provide storage for the club's ever increasing equipment.
The club is now recruiting younger players to ensure it's continuing success for the future. The adults team has been dissolved this year as it has been difficult to maintain the required numbers of players to continue. Hopefully this situation can be resolved and an adults team can be recruited for the next season.
